Reflection:

Wow time fly’s we are in the middle of the semester now, and there is so much going on; like midterms, lots of homework and other things we want to get caught up. My motivations for school right now are strong I can say; although, it’s just so much things I need to get done and some I haven’t even started on them. But, what’s keeping my motivations strong right now it probably is that I am talking to one of my fashion design professors about transferring so it’s getting me excited because each day am getting closer of getting where I want to be. I have been contemplating on how I can complete all my homework on time regarding that I have 14 units this semester in Fullerton College. I thrived when I was younger so I hope I can continue that way. I have a presentation due soon and I have to do a power point but I am having difficulties starting it and putting it together; it’s a semester project so it’s very important so I have to get it done I’m not going to give up. I have to keep my self-motivated because I need to defer school first before anything else. Better have all the struggles now than later; everything will pay off for good. In all honesty, if I already got to the middle of the semester there is no way I can go back now. Therefore, the only way to get through this is by completing the courses.

Weekly Calendar:

Reflection:

Long-term goal: be a fashion designer
Mid-term goal: get a Masters degree
Short-term goal: understand all my classes, learn everything I need to know.

October 15, 2018

Dear friend,
I have so much to tell you, a lot has happened since the last time I seen you.I been a very successful person, I am a fashion designer, I have my own store, own private label, I travel all over the world to put fashion shows with my designs. All though, I accomplished my goals it wasn't easy at all. I went through so many ups and downs and difficulties and experiences that I knew it was not going to be easy to get where I wanted to get but I didn't give up because I’m not a failure. My first goal I wanted to complete was to understand all my classes and learn everything I need to know in order to succeed my goal. Therefore, I had steps to work on. I corroborated in my classes by not missing any class, doing all my homework, asking the teachers for help if I didn't understand something and listening very carefully everything she would teach in class. If I still didn't past my classes I would retake them again until I’d past them. My second goal was to get up to a master’s degree. I always imagined myself as an affluent person so I wanted to get there; that’s why I was heading for my master’s. I went to Fullerton College got my certificate for fashion design than I got my AA degree there. Next, from there I transferred to Long Beach University for my master’s. It was difficult for me to get to school because I didn't have a car; I would get rides or on the bus. Also it was challenging being in many classes and being in school for so long because years were passing and I still didn't have a job. My third goal of course was to get a job as a fashion designer because I am an aficionado for fashion in apparel. Finally, I did I accomplished and succeeded in my goal; it was all worth it. I am the happiest women ever!    always your friend Janet Esquivias.

Vocabulary:

incongruence
There is a stop sign with a different sign on the side that says keep moving. they do not go together because they have the opposite meaning.

It is incongruence to say "do as a say not as I do" because they are saying one thing and doing another.

legitimacy

The man is from the government and he is doing to right thing of giving money to the person that needs help; he is low-full.

There are some things that value depends largely on their legitimacy.

persevering

The lady in the picture is going towards victory, she in not giving up. she may have struggles but she is following her dream.

If you want to get to your goal, you must persevere no matter what.

Reflection post:

The past week I had plans on doing my essay for my English class; and turning it in the following week. I did follow my plans. Although, I was very nervous because I had so many homework to do for my other classes too, so I might have not done so well. But I did use reading strategies and study skills because I needed to read two articles and compare both and I needed to give my position to one of them. As I was reading the articles I was annotating and looking up words I didn't know what they meant. I was writing on the book little summaries, notes and switching words to easier word I could understand. I also reread them to get a better idea about what the author is trying to say. I was successful on completing my plans. Hopefully I was also successful on my essay as well. I will look forward to the coming week because I do have another essay to begin. I will make some adjustments from last week to this week. I will make corrections on my essays for a better grade. Fix all mistakes so when I start another essay I can do better and learn more. Have better grammar and a good thesis statement because I always had trouble with my thesis. Therefore, this way I will be able to write more and have more information. I am going to practice my study skills even more; this will not only help me with my English class but also with my reading class.

entry #2

Impetus
*What remains to be seen, however, is whether it galvanizes Bin Laden's followers by turning him into a martyr or serves as turning of the page in the war in Afghanistan and gives further impetus to Mr. Obama to bring American troops home.
*Article Title -Bin Laden Is Dead, Obama Says pg.1
*I had a hard time with the word and the whole sentence so a remade the sentence again switching some words to easier words that meant the same thing so I think the word impetus means reasons because it looks like Obama is giving reasons to bring the solders home.

*(Inference)
*Modeled sentence- The high crime rate was the impetus for the hiring of one hundred new police officers in our city.

*Original sentence- The hot weather rate was the impetus for the hiring of 30 new employees in the Soak City water park.

Extremists
*Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff, publicly criticized the Pakistani military two weeks ago for failing to act against extremists allied to Al Qaeda who shelter in the tribal areas of North Waziristan.
*What I think the word means is extreme & ultra because in the sentence the words criticized for failing to act makes me think the Mike is going to the extreme.

*(Inference)
*Modeled sentence- but then the ultimate goal of these extremists is to take away our right to eat meat.
*Original sentence- even then the all time purpose of these extremists is to take away the right to eat junk food.

Upheaval
*Analysts said Bin Laden's death amounted to a double blow for Al Qaeda, after its sermons of anti-Western violence seemed to be rendered irrelevant by the wave of political upheaval rolling through the Arab word.
*I think the word means "violent change" because its explaining the Bin Laden's death and being violence and the political word.

*(Inference)
*Modeled sentence- if nothing else, all this upheaval had given him back his musical voice.
*Original sentence- If everything else, all this upheaval had not given her back her dancing moves.

Reflection

Many people have herd that drinking and driving is dangerous and we shouldn't do it but, do we actually listen? Umm no not really; I want everyone that reads this to reflect on it because this is a very important topic that can change your life in a few seconds. I have a cousin named Adrianna she is 25 years old. Every time there was a party she would celebrate it by drinking until getting really drunk whom I guess it wasn’t too bad because the parties were at her house so she didn’t need to drive home. But after a while when she began to go to bars all the time and would drive home or the drunk friends driving her home that’s when she was risking it all the time. Until one night she was in a bar in a happy hour so she was taking advantage of the deal drinking and drinking nonstop then it was time to go home. Three friends and she left in one car, she was in the passenger seat they were all drunk. Driving their way home with a high speed when all of a sudden the driver couldn’t control the staring wheel and crashed in a pole. The police, ambulance and helicopter came; the driver did not get hurt the other two in the back seat got minor injuries but my cousin Adrianna even though she was conscious her foot was stuck and couldn’t get her out of the car. Two hours past and the only way to get her out were cutting off her foot so they did and she was the only one that got to the hospital in the helicopter. She felt all the pain because she was awake; she had a broken collarbone, arm, rib, both thighs, left foot, toes, and right leg amputated. It’s been two months now that she can get up by herself with cruches it’s a real miracle. This made an impact in my life because it made me think things better and learn things by other experiences not wait for it to happen to me in order to understand it’s wrong. Especially that just didn’t happen to a stranger but to my lovely strong cousin.

juxtaposition
He argued that body language, facial expressions and stock mannerisms function "in juxtaposition to words," imparting feelings, attitudes, reactions and judgments in a different register.
The name of the book is "Why Gen-Y Johnny Can't Read Nonverbal Cues" page #1.
The context clues that helped me understand the meaning of the word were facial expressions and different register because It means that the person was doing two different reactions at a time.
What I liked the most about the movie was it's juxtaposition of action and romance.

mannerism
He argued that body language, facial expressions and stock mannerisms function "in juxtaposition to words, " imparting feelings, attitudes, reactions and judgments in a different register.
The name of the book is "Why Gen-Y Johnny Can't Read Nonverbal Cues" page #1.
The context clues that helped me understand the meaning of the word were body language and attitude because the two words mean the way a person acts and behavior so it made it obvious  what the word meant. I'ts always good to have good mannerisms when going to an interview.

acculturation
How could they, for the "silent language" is acquired though acculturation, not schooling.
The name of the book is "Why Gen-Y Johnny Can't Read Nonverbal Cues" page #1.
The context clues that helped me understand what the word meant were "could they" and "silent language" because that is referring someone else and talking about people that talk another language.
There are many acculturation people out there.

Reflection

In my life backpack, I carry with me many good and bad. The most  important is of course I have my family with me.We always had the basics to survive; All though, I always had difficulties in school in learning, that is the bad thing I carry with me.  Since fourth grade to sixth grade I was going to R.S.P which was an extra class I’ll go to during my regular class hours. At a certain time I would get out of my class and go to the R.S.P class this was to get extra help on everything we would get toughed in school. Than from seventh grade to senior year I was always taking special education classes. I’m calling it a disability, this disability makes me weaker plus I always gotten made fun of since I was a child till now. This problem not knowing much  to read, write, or understand something someone is telling me obviously doesn't help me at all! This impacts me with my academic career this mean I’m going to have many struggles and difficulties in order to succeed in life; but this is not going to stop me from reaching my goal as of being a fashion designer. The learning disability I have not only affects my education status but everything that surrounds me because everything is hard for me if it’s expressing my self, trying to figure something out, know how the freeways run, spelling out something, and also in my soccer team I’m the worst one in the team even though I been playing for four years now. Sometimes I see switched letters too while reading or writing; and right now that I’m in college everything is very hard for me if it’s class work or homework or even taking notes and staying focus while the professor is talking and knowing what she is talking about.  But after all I’m not going to give up it might take me longer to finish school but I will finish with a master’s degree.  I have a great family that supports me; it’s the best quality I carry with me in my “back pack”!
